Make Us Walk In Your Shoes | Creative Identity Through the Shoes of Our Past

Every creative path begins with a bold step. What’s yours?
A Day in My Mother's Shoes | A Poem by AMOE

A Story in Every Step

My mother wore these kitten heels to court — fierce as a mother lion.

She walked with grace and fire, balancing elegance and power as she fought for civil rights cases. And let’s be clear — she looked amazing while doing it.

I remember sitting in those courtrooms, watching her, learning from her.

I may not be in courtrooms now, but I’ve fought my way into rooms I once never imagined I’d be welcome in.

And I have the confidence to do so because of the steps of those before me.

A Day in My Mother’s Shoes

Walk the walk
And talk the talk

Of Queens dethroned
Yet reigns retained

Of battles fought
And wars to wage

Foundations forged
And seeds sown

Go on daughter
Let it be known

Stepping Into Your Creative Identity (With Style)

The best stories are the ones only you can tell.

But to tell those stories, you must be conscious of where you’ve come from…

Where you envision to go…

And the journey along the way.

(That’s the most interesting part.)

I know you’re tired.

Of fighting battles in a war that seems endless.

Of walking into rooms where you don’t know if you belong.

But remember this:

Your ancestors fought to get you where you are now.

Go on daughter.

Let it be known.

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for showing up.

And this—this was Amoe’s Armoire.

Behind the curtain.

I realized I was missing a part of myself—that expression that was completely bold and colorful. And when I didn’t care what anyone else thought about me, I went into a deep, deep depression.

My life was a mess, but eventually I got out of it. And one of the things that got me out of it was my mother reminding me who I was, by gifting me her closet. And that is the foundation of AMOE.
